Local Businesses Sponsor nearly 13,000 Tote Bag Giveaway
Jersey City, NJ – Local shoppers will be sporting stylish pink, lime, red, orange, and green reusable tote bags this holiday season. Starting on Small Business Saturday (November 24th) nearly 13,000 tote bags will be given away to Jersey City shoppers thanks to the efforts of 52 Central Avenue businesses.
Working together through the Central Avenue Special Improvement District program, these businesses continue the popular tradition of giving away “Shop Local, Shop Central Avenue/ Heights” tote bags to their beloved customers. Central Avenue businesses usually distribute 2,000 tote bags each year during the holidays. This year, they are distributing more than six times the amount of the past three years combined.
“Central Avenue shoppers look forward to getting their new tote bags from their favorite stores each year,” said Sanford Fishman, CASID President and pharmacist at Bond Drugs. “Jersey City’s ban on plastic bags goes into effect in 2019 making this a great gift in preparation for what the new year will bring. Shopping local is after all the gift that keeps on giving,”
Many participating businesses will hand out the tote bags starting on Small Business Saturday and through December while supplies last. Anyone who would like a reusable bag should request one during his or her next visit to the shopping district.
Shoppers will also be treated to Central Avenue’s annual holiday decorations which include over 130 lighting pieces and forty festive banners spread throughout the district. The City of Jersey City has announced free two-hour parking in municipal lots between Thanksgiving (Nov. 22th) and New Year’s Day (Jan. 1st). Shoppers can also save half the sales tax on retail purchases at registered UEZ businesses.
