Jersey City, NJ – Benjamin Moore Paint is once again available on Central Avenue, Jersey City thanks to Novick Hardware. Mayor Steven Fulop, Councilman Michael Yun, the Jersey City Small Business Services, and the Central Avenue Special Improvement District joined Novick Hardware (302 Central Ave) at 10:30am on Friday, October 27th to celebrate this important milestone for a business that has been a staple in the community for over ninety years.
“We have been working to bring Benjamin Moore back to the Jersey City Heights for the last two years,” says Mitzi Tejada who now owns Novick Hardware with her husband Bartolo Tejada. “Benjamin Moore is high quality paint and there is a large demand for it in this neighborhood. We didn’t realize how big the demand was until we started to carry it. We heard from our customers how happy they are to find it here which is the only hardware store in the area to carry it.” Benjamin Moore paint was last available at Silon Hardware (402 Central) which closed in 2010.
The Tejada family are the third set of owners to keep this small family-run business going. The previous owner, Ron Lo Russo, actually closed the business in 2013 before the Tejada family took over and breathed new life into the storefront. “Novick Hardware is not going anywhere,” says Mitzi. “Benjamin Moore reaffirms that Novick Hardware is here to stay.”
“We congratulate the Tejada family on their success to revive our neighborhood hardware store,” said Sanford Fishman, CASID President and longtime pharmacist at Bond Drugs. “Growing a small business can be a difficult thing to do. It is great that Novick is doing better than well and serves Heights residents with quality products. We hope Novick’s continues to be a staple in the community for generations to come.”
