“Discover the Jersey City Heights” a Community Effort

Open Letter to the Public

The Jersey City Heights isn’t perfect. But even though there is always room for improvement, we can be proud of the Heights’ many assets. Strong block associations form the backbone of a community that has a friendly neighborhood atmosphere, unique recreational areas, and a traditional shopping district, all connected via mass transit options including Coach USA bus routes 10 and 99s and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.

Recently, the Central Avenue Special Improvement District (CASID) decided that it was time to encourage pride and promote further progress in the Heights by creating the TV commercial “Discover the Jersey City Heights.” The production of this commercial was a true community effort, involving not only Mayor Healy and Councilman Gaughan but a number of Heights residents, civic leaders and organizations including Joe Napolitano of the Pershing Field Babe Ruth League, Laura Skolar of the Pershing Field Garden Friends, Steve Latham of the Jersey City Reservoir Alliance, Chief Tom Comey and the Jersey City Police Department, Fred Sharp of Coach USA Red & Tan in Hudson County, and Anthony Johnson of the Central Avenue Radio Shack. Thanks to account executive Sullivan Johnson and local sales manager Jean Criss-Farrell, Comcast will co-sponsor the broadcast of the commercial by providing the first 800 of 1600 airtime spots on 11 cable networks including ESPN, USA, Comedy Central, mun2, VH1, The History Channel, TNT, Food Network, Lifetime, Galavisión and ESPN2.

I wish to thank these civic-minded individuals, agencies and businesses for helping us showcase the many reasons to “Discover the Jersey City Heights.” Visit our website, www.JCHeights.com, to see the commercial, and look for it on television this fall. Our community is small, but if we take pride in it and work together to promote it, we can make a big difference in the future.

Sincerely,

President Michael Yun and the Board of Trustees
