Central Avenue Unveils a New Mural!

Location: Lot 49, 340 Central Avenue, Jersey City

Date Installed: July 17th, 2025

Artist: Ruben Cedeno

A long-standing tradition of public art has returned to the streets of The Heights once more! This mural program was managed by the Central Avenue SID Management Corporation. It was made possible by the LAP (Local Arts Program) Grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a division of the Department of State, and administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, Craig Guy, Hudson County Executive and the Hudson County Board of Commissioners.

This mural, designed and executed by Ruben Cedeno with the support of Catherine Thurston, is titled “Welcome to JC HEIGHTS.” Through its vibrant colors and expressive faces, the artwork reflects the people and spirit of The Heights. Diversity is woven into the very fabric of this community, something you can feel and appreciate with every step along Central Avenue.

Cedeno’s vision was to capture the “unique blend of cultures and the lively spirit” that defines The Heights neighborhood and makes it feel like home.

“Essentially, I was familiar with this area and didn’t feel intimidated living here since it’s so diverse. You can find anything you need or may want here. It feels like home.”Ruben Cedeno, Artist
