Central Avenue Locks

Heights Business and Neighborhood Community Work Side by Side to Help Kids Around the Nation

On Saturday November 21st 2009 Diva Spa & Salon closed out the Locks of Love week event on Central Avenue.  With numerous hair donations from local residents, students, and Hudson County supporters the event produced over a dozen ponytails for the Locks of Love organization.  These donated hairpieces will be sent to the national headquarters of the organization and be made into early Christmas gifts for children in need of wigs.  Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Although providing hairpieces does not cure these children it does restore some sort of normalcy in their everyday lives.

This event was made possible by the support of Total Image Beauty Academy and Diva Spa & Salon, and Golden Touch offering their services to those willing to donate hair for the children. Lisa Perez, business owner of Diva Spa & Salon said “I knew when I decided to open a business in Jersey City this was the place to come. Central Avenue has many local residents that support merchants and their causes such as this I am happy we can work together and make a difference”.

Also in attendance at the event was Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy who had some kind words for a first grade student who was donating her hair for another child. “I am proud to see residents support both the Central Avenue business community but also a great cause such as Locks of Love” said Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy.
