Over 10 years ago Central Avenue received a streetscape facelift which included forty-six (46) new garbage receptacles. Until recently many of these containers were victims of Jersey City’s tough urban environment. For the last three years shoppers, local residents, as well as business owners have complained about this issue and the CASID relayed the message to elected officials and corresponding city departments. The combined efforts of the CASID and the Department of Public Works were able to salvage many of these garbage receptacles with some maintenance work. Despite their best efforts however, eighteen (18) garbage receptacles remained in unacceptable conditions causing continued eyesores.
“We are pleased to announce in that working with our elected officials and the Urban Enterprise Zone there has been an installation of eighteen (18) garbage containers along Central Avenue” said CASID President Michael Yun. “These much needed containers could not have come at a better time, then to begin the New Year.”
On Behalf of its 450 members, the CASID thanks Councilman-at-Large Peter Brennan; Councilman Ward D William Gaughan; Eugene Nelson CEO, JC EDC; Roberta Farber Director, JC UEZ; John Yurchak Director, DPW; and Robert Hadley Director, Division of Parks & Forestry. Their collaborative effort to allocate time and resources thereby helping to improve the quality of life in Jersey City is always appreciated.
