Jersey City, NJ – The Heights’ Central Avenue shopping district is looking vibrant this fall thanks to nearly 30 local businesses that partnered with the Central Avenue S.I.D. Management Corporation (CASID) to sponsor the beautification of more than 50 tree bed locations. The new fall flowers have brought fresh color and charm to the streetscape, delighting shoppers, residents, and visitors alike.
The pilot program, launched this season, gave merchants an opportunity to invest directly in improving the district’s appearance. Each sponsorship supported the installation of approximately 10 to 12 chrysanthemums per location, adding vibrant fall color to the streetscape. CASID officials say the plantings also help protect tree beds by discouraging people from walking on it, prevents debris from collecting there, and prevents household garbage from being placed there on collection nights.
“As a business owner, I’m thrilled to see so many Central Avenue merchants step up to support this initiative,” said Mitzi Tejada, owner of Novick Hardware (302 Central Avenue) and Vice President (South) of CASID. “The positive feedback from customers and neighbors has been overwhelming. It’s clear this is something the community wants to see continue.”
Participating businesses are partnering with CASID to water and maintain the plantings through the end of the season. CASID is evaluating the success of the pilot as it considers expanding the program in future years. This program was organized by the CASID and paid for in part with State of New Jersey UEZ funds.
