SIDs became part of the New Jersey landscape in 1984 with the passing of state legislation. The first SID in the State of New Jersey was created in 1985 in the Township of CranfordEstablished in 1992, the Central Avenue SID was the first of seven SIDs in Jersey City (Journal Square, Historic Downtown, McGinley Square, Jackson Hill Main Street, Exchange Place, and West Side Avenue). There are nearly 100 Improvement Districts in the State of New Jersey.
